i woke up this morning moved my truck out of the garage and i noticed it wont running right. Went to go pick up a friend and came back to my house and i looked at it again. It seems to be backfiring through the carb any suggestions on how to fix this? its a 87 2wd dakota w/ a 3.9Lv6 and a A904 trans 171K miles about 1k miles over due for a oil change and its drove hard and put up hot (well the tires atleast lol)

how old are the plug wires? old wires and increased dampness due to it getting warmer out will cause this. also old/cracked distrubutor cap, badly worn rotor or pickup coil in distributor going bad maybe. good places to start lookin. oil has nuttin to do with it.

If it's back firing thru the carb it sounds like the timing chain or distributor may have jumped time.

i had the same thing happen to one of my vehicles it would dump to much fuel down into the engine then backfire through the carb but it wouldnt do it all the time and it ran good until it would backfire through the carb
