I know this is kinda long but I have to tell you guys. I'm also kinda concerned! I drove to Orlando,FL from Houston,TX over spring break. My recently bought 99 dakota SLT 3.9L 2wd manual was parked in the parking lot at the mall, while i was inside, someone backed into my truck with something and hit it hard! I got in from behind the truck so i didnt notice but I only got a block down the road when steam started rolling from under the hood. I cut it off, pulled to the side, the thermometer said about 260"redline". Turns out, what had happened is whatever hit me, went just under the front bumper, bent my a/c condenser(no leak), and bent the cross-member under the radiator about 2-3 inches back which pushed the plastic shroud around the fan back. The water pump pulley melted an inch into the shroud, the shroud also bent a blade of the fan and stopped it causing it to overheat. We towed it to a friends house where we were staying, stripped down the front end, replaced the x-member, bent back the fan blade with a vice, and drove it back to Houston. It was pulling to the right a little but an allignment fixed that. It seems back to normal but now if im driving and i let off the clutch, it wont die, it will just chill aroud 700rpm. before the trip, it would bog down till it died. No complaints but its wierd. the guy didnt even leave his insurance or anything. if i would have taken it to a shop it would have been about $1000 to fix but done myself, it was like $200 and a lot of sweat. I was wondering if I forgot anything or if you guys knew of anything I should check. I gotta take care of my baby! Thanks

holy $hit that sucks!!!
I was mad enough, when someone backed into my truck's rear bumper at work (dent about the size of a nickel, hardly any paint removed) if someone smashed the front of my dak, I would be hysterical! most malls have a camera in the parking lot, you may be able to get ahold of them. maybe even get the A-hole that defiled your dak!
i can't think of anything that you should check, maybe someone else can.
some people have no respect, this one guy in this crapppy old beater. (at work) opens his door and hits the side of my dak!!! while i was in it!!!! oooohhh boy did i read him the riot act... now theres a ding that only i notice, right on the line that runs the lower part of the door. about the size of a bb.... i mean how hard is it to watch what the hell you are doing!!

Sorry to hear about that. This kind $hit happens at school to me all the time. You would think that students and faculty at a University would have a little more respect. Apparently not. I have had a dent in the side from someone pulling in too close, a small crease in the tail gate, a scratched front fascia, and now a couple of dents and scratches in my rear bumper. Of course there several door dings. It really irritates the heck out of me. At least someone fessed up to the big dent/crease/$4000 of body work that they did when they backed out and their foot slipped of the clutch. That one was really nasty. When I get my 05 Dak, I will be keeping the '97 as my daily driver to try and limit the damage inflicted by inconsiderate priks.

I dont park anywhere near other cars. I will walk extra far in the raiin to keep my vehicles away from others. Also I always park in the end spots all the way against the curb or whatever so if someone does park next to me, there is enough room to open their door fully without touching my car/truck. The only time I park next to another vehicle is when its one of my own or my fiance's.

That is why I park as far away as possible from the store. The majority of people are too lazy to park in the back of a parking lot, so my dak is usually ok.

That's gotta blow... I always try to park away from everyone, yet I still seem to get blasted. I've got a nice door ding about the size of a quarter in my passenger door where some jackass parked too close to my truck and opened his door too far and definitely waaay too hard. Then about a month ago a girl hit ice while going to park a few spaces over from me and slid right into my truck (a lil over $900 worth of bodywork) and the first day I had my truck back at school after getting it fixed somebody else just about blasted it AGAIN. They were speeding down the aisle trying to show off and whipped their vehicle into the spot almost taking out my girlfriend's car, my truck, and a few others. What's sad is that I always park in the 2nd to last row (back row is where all the farm boys park and show off their donuts). Idiot drivers...gah!

the bad thing around myrtle beach is it dont matter where i park i have some morons parking next to me.
i can park the farthest away from the store and by the time i get out there are two cars by my kota.
same thing when i had my neon and with my white neon i had some lady hit it with her green ford ranger and me and my wife where in it.
i told my wife you better talk to her or i am gonna flip the #$%^ out. lol took all my control not to flip out on her
