Subject: Questions for Larry or anyone helpfull.. IP: Logged
Message: Sorry about the long post...
Did TB cleaning and rotor/cap/wires and plugs this weekend. ('03 QC V6 auto) Upon completion started an ran truck and am having the following symptoms:
-1. Rolling idle (idles up and down and eventually the idle races)
-2. Starting from cold truck will idle for a few moments and then idle will jump 100-150rpm and then a few moments later will jump 100-150rpm and then idles somewhere around 1000rpm
-3. While driving the truck it drives like a manual trans. Truck wants to take off at a stop light and is very tourquey. Wont downshift to 1st until almost completely stopped. At highway speeds, letting off the gas the motor/trans will slow the truck like a manual.
-4. After driving, throw it into park and the and the idle jumps and the engine races.
-5. Shift from park and the truck feels like its going to touque the tranny right out.
-6. Truck is throwing no codes
Ive checked and rechecked all the sensors and found nothing. I unplug the IAC when its idleing high and nothing changes. Unplugged the TPS and the idle dropped momentarily but after shutting the truck off the idle is way up again. Unplugging it again and changed nothing. Drove the truck in the hopes the computer would relearn but nothing changed.
Im wondering if possibly the TV cable got jammed or pulled too far? It was kinda tricky getting the clip out. Almost feels like the torque converter is locked, like it wont ever free wheel after letting off the gas. Could the TV cable being out of whack cause this?
Im at a complete loss at this point...How can preventative maintenance go so wrong???.....
Any help is greatly appreciated....Thanks

Message: take the idle control valve out of the[back]tb and clean it with some carb cleaner,be careful,
question, when you cleaned the tb,did you remove tb from the intake,if yes,do you put a new gasket before re-installing.
the trans and convertor sound fine

Message: sounds like what happened to mine when i swaped my tb for a v8 tb. just reset your pcm (unhook neg batt terminal and turn the key to the start positon for 30 seconds, then reconnect. start it, this is important! DO not toutch the gas pedal! just let it idle for about 1 min then shut it off. restart it again let idle for about 2 mins shut it off again then you can take it for a drive.
mine idled funny like that (fluctuated between 700 and 900, really annoying) until i reset the pcm properly
as for the weird shifting, yes it may be the tv cable. full instructions here: http://www.speedtweaks.ca/tipsandtricks.php
among other things it explains things in easy to understand terms.
hope i helped.

Message: sounds like something wrong with the IAC. you must be gentle with it. don't turn it or push on it.

Message: should always use a new gaskit that $1 or so is
good insurance
If you tried to move the IAC valve in any way you
could have damaged it. check there is no carbon
stuck on seat in TB. use a little oil on the
o ring
Another thing it could be is a stuck TPS drivers
side TB center wire and ground key on engine not
running should read low volts closed go up as
thrttle opens and always return to low volts
A vacume hose off
try a reset neg batt cable off key all the way to
start for 30 secs than off reconect and start
let idle for 1 to 2 min shut off, start and let
idle another 1 to 2 min now shut off start and
drive, do not touch the gas at all during the
2 idle learn sequence.
If that don't do it start checking the other things

Message: Hey guys, thanks for all the replies....
I removed the TB and reinstalled it with a new gasket. I thoroughly but gently cleaned the IAC and port with carb cleaner and a soft tooth brush. I did the same thing on my 98 last summer and everything went fine.
The thing I dont recall is if there was an o-ring on the IAC. Is it part of the plunger or is it seperate?
Again, I appreciate your help

Message: Checked with Napa and Oreillys, the two closest parts stores, and neither has any listings for anything 2003.
Stealer lists IAC (which they call a AIS?) for $70 and the guy on the phone didnt have a clue about an o-ring.
Anyone know where i could find an o-ring for a IAC?
Also where does the o-ring fit?
