Is there a good alternative manufacturer for a replacement on the stock Carb...? 3.9 L 6 cyl, 4WD. Running like crap, Mechanic says replace carb... Can't find new stock one anywhere, rebuilt is 155 and will take a week... Any suggestions?

All of my other vehicles are foreign made, with the exception of a new mustang.. I have always swapped foreign carbs with Weber's or Mikuni's...

Can you just get a rebuild kit for it and do it yourself?

I rebuilt a carb for an old Duster, and it was cake. Take it apart, soak everything, clean everything, install replacement parts, and put it back together. Of course you have to set the float, but that's not a big deal if you have a decent scale (ruler). Set the mixture and idle speed according to a Haynes manual, and you should be good to go.

JAY, what year dakota are you talking about?

Is this a Throttle body? There"s almost nothing on them that goes wrong. Just take it off, get a good spray on carb cleaner and your done!

Oh, Just make sure you take all your electronics off first. If your really having a problem, these are probably the culprits.

Didn't the 1987 Dakotas have a carb, not a throttle body?
