Subject: Serious stalling problem someone help IP: Logged
Message: I was out driving with my friends today. and my truck stalled. I didnt think much of it but when the second time it happend i started to get a little bit pissed off. It ended up happening all the way home. might i say i would get close to 40 feet down the road and it would stall. and i was a good 15 miles away from home. It wouldnt just start right back up either. had to pop the hood mess with the choke as in cover the intake it wasnt like this was sticking, and it eveually would start. I did notice that the spraiers *not sure of the name of it* in the carb were bairly pumpin fuel in compaired to wat it would normally would, and i wasnt out of fuel was at 3/4s full. Would this be the fuel pump Or is my carb shot. I know its something with fuel becuase of the way it quites out when you romp on it does fine, then u go to hit the gas after and its all over and starts buckin a real little and just coasts to a stop. It would only puff black smoke if the choke would be on which was the only way to get it to start again.but after kickin choke off nothin would puff out. I hope this is enough information for someone to help Im new at this so plz no one give me any crap im just trying to figure out if this is worth tryin to fix or not. Plus if u have any questions on wat else it is doing just leave it on this post. I dont think anyone would of liked if i wrote anymore
Plz someone help

Message: Sounds like the pump to me. Carbs dont usually just start making your vehicle stall - its somewhat more gradual than that. How much gas is in your tank? How hot is it where you live? When's the last time you replaced you fuel filter (is it still in the tank back in 87)?

Message: This sounds like the same problem my 89 is having... Fuel flow is great though, that did not seem to be the problem... I have a good friend that is a mechanic and he told me that it was the Carb, guaranteed... I am working on changing it out, was hoping for alternatives though...

Message: my 89 was doing the same a few years ago, it turned out that the computer was over heating, there is a box over the passenger wheel well, and an air duct going to the grill, this is for cooling, there is baffle in there to slow the air down, I took this baffle out and it hasn't done this since, what is the temperature? mine was doing this in July when it was 35 above!

Message: well it started with more than 3/4 full close to a full tank. but by the time i got home dealin with having the choke on and stuff im like 1 bar till half now. The stalling happend to my dad once on the highway when he hit half a tank so all i have been doin is keeping it above half tank but i guess it wasnt enough anymore. Could it be by goin down a old dirt road and being bumpy and stuff would crap in the bottom of the tank cuase this to happen like it plug up or something. I got a new fuel pump and filter today got it all apart but ran out of day light to work on it. so ill finish it up tomarro. Ill check out the computer thing. Although it wasnt above 40 F
If it is the carb im pretty lucky cuz my friend is serious in building dodges so hes helpin me out as it is and he has a extra carb. Im hopein its just the fuel pump
Thanks for the imput Jay Dee let me know if it runs better after a new carb. Also any other Ideas what could be wrong would help.
