Subject: Cranckcase breather vs. elbow? IP: Logged
Message: What's the difference? My '96 engine has a breather element, but the '98 I replaced it with only has the elbow.
Does it matter if you have an elbow or breather element?
Thanks,
Daveo.

Message: The elbow should have a rubber tube that runs from it up to a nipple on the airhat. I'm guessing the breather is a little filter and doesn't need to be run up to where it would pull in filtered air.

Message: GB2000,
The funny thing is that they BOTH have the tube running up to the airhat.
I guess one is FILTERED air and one is not!(LOL)
We may never know!! :)

Message: Interesting... I never knew that. I don't know jack about gen. 2's (barely anything about what I do own...gen. 3), but I always thought the breather for the gen. 2's was just a small filter right on the valve cover instead of having the tube that ran up to the airhat. I think one is filtered air and one is double-filtered air...lol.

Message: Direction of flow is from valve cover to
air intake ( air hat , or breather assy )
older filters at valve cover
newer uses only orifice size
