what the hell,
17.8?
Ok, first time going to the track.
Waited about an hour to get to race.
and finally got up there and had to drive
threw a puddle of like oil or somthin
and powerbraked like a motha and had smoke
every where. People in the stands where
takin pictures. Anyways i got up and ready
to go... red.... yelllow.... green! I stomped it(keep in mind first time) and my dak goes side ways. i was driving straight but my truck was at an angle. I counted out about 2 to 3 seconds of
lost traction not to mention my reaction time was 1.6.
I got a 17.8 at 77mph
what the hell. stock trucks run low 17's
i was hopin to get in the low 16's.
couldn't run again cause the track was closing.
help me out, what is supposed to be done?
or what can be done to lower my time on my side.

Try practising your launch. That's ALL I've been doing lately. Use two feet. One foot on the brake, one foot on the gas. Rev it to near or at 2000, just find that spot before you start torqueing it.
As the light turns, quickly snap your foot off the brake, and press on the accelerator, but not like your in traffic. Stomping on the pedal will ONLY get you wheel spin and traction loss for a bit.
Practise makes perfect. This technique works for me. I haven't found ANYONE that has bettered a launch than me. My friend w/ the Mazda Millenia whips my ass in a race, but off the line, I take it.
Keep trying tho slvr dak, it takes time. The trucks do go low 17's stock (some upper 16's), but racing is 95% driver.
And 17.8 is a respectable time for a first timer... what are some specs of your truck? 4x4? reg. cab? auto?

just do the exact same, just in a fast-gradual way, hit the accelerator. Also, look into the TPS tweak mentioned at Speedtweaks.net, it's in the tips and tricks area.
This will improve throttle response.

if i got slicks could i just gun it?
also, i have a auto, should i keep it
in drive or go from 1st to 2nd then drive?
what are the tricks of the trade?
should i smoke the tires before the race,like the
others do?

with the auto you will want to keep it in drive but turn off the o/d if doing a 1/4 mile. with the slicks you still should preload the torque converter. if you just floor it from a dead stop and have slicks you could break something if you have enought power.

i think that you should preload(powerbrake) and then just give some gas not full throttle off the start. I am not sure about the slicks
how much do thes cost
any one back me up on this?

the oil you reffered too it to get the tires wet and then u spin em to warm em up
thats why its there
also will it hurt to have the O/D off still going 77mph?
last question
u know how theres a little nook between almost fulll throttle and WAO should it be there when doing the 1/4?

i have to WOT it because of the juice...with my peg leg when i hit the juice it still sends the truck sideways for a second

My recently deceased Neon could take just about any truck out in the quarter. But it weighs alot less than a dak. So i respect you guys for trying to make them go fast.
ps. ive got a 2001 3.9 dak 5 speed 4x4.
oh and the neon is deceased cause my brother borrowed it and smashed it up the arse end of a civic.

Patrick-sorry about the neon.....but the civic deserved it!
ps. my 1/8 is a 9.8....but plenty of room for improvement...next time i go i am going to try the juice right out of the hole.

Sorry, man, I got to go to Laredo to play baseball against UT-Pan Am. I play for the Club Baseball Team at A&M. Its not an excuse... its just a prior engagement. Dont tell me this is the only weekend you guys are gonna race??? There will be other times, but I am still diappointed.
