Subject: groan sound in reverse IP: Logged
Message: Most times when I shift into reverse to back into a parking stall
the truck lets out a groan first (hard to better describe the
sound). Any ideas on what causes this?

Message: I get that too. It's kind of a squeak / groan sound. It doesn't do it all of the time though. It does it when the engine is cold or hot. I want to say it sounds like the gears in my differential are grinding.

Message: I don't get a clunk at all just a sometimes loud metallic groan. Weird. It's always done that since I bought it whether I'm just using the truck the first time that day or been using it all day.

Message: I have the same issue. In fact I found a TSB (technical service bullitin) On the problem. So i printed it off and went to a dealer with it. They verifed the noise and said it was a known problem but chrysler hasnt doesnt have a solution for the problem. In fact I have found that if you hear the groaning/wining noise when you shift into reverse.. just shift into neutral and then back into reverse and it will go away at least 80 percent of the time.
Hope this helpz
