I know the drop in is cheaper, but if I can get better performance and economy with the cold air intake, I will take that option.

Just to let you know K/N don't make a generation II for 94 to 96 3.9 Dakota I ordered one through JC Whitney. It showed the picture of the gereration II FIPK for $139.00 and list 94 to 96 3.9 that is what I thought I was getting. I got it yesterday in the mail and its just an open chrome air breather with a K/N filter. I spoke with K/N they told me they don't make it for my year and model. They said there is a 8hp increase for the stock drop in which I had. I put it on last night I did see a little difference over the drop in K/N.

Im going to run it a little while before I make up my my to keep it or not. I would like to know if you guys know of a better system?

Bob

I know what you guys mean about kn not makin one for our trucks. I have the same prob.
I have a 96 3.9 and i am having trouble finding one for my truck. I had someone tell me to go to www.krcperformance.com they might have something. They list that they have a FIPK kit for they 96 to 01 fuel injected. I am not sure if they will fit on mine though. I would think that it would only be designed for the gen111 from 97 up.

It makes me really mad though that i can find a deacent priced cold air for my truck. If you guys end up finding something let me know i need that extra HP.

Try a homebrew man. Serious. Just as effective, imo.

I skimped out, cause I'm married w/ a kid on the way, so I got a Ractive cone and devised my own intake. It works!
