PLZ HELP.....I HAVE GOT A LOUD AND NOISEY SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE OF MY 2002 4X4 DODGE DAKOTA SXT TRUCK!! WHAT CAN IT BE..PLZ HELP????

lots of things, what does it sound like besides loud and noisy, ? grinding? crunching? banging? slapping? rattling? need more info!! can be a lot of things, broken internal engine parts, broken vaccumm hose,loose air intake, hole in exhaust system, broken 4X4 transfer case, each one has a distinctive sound, but ALL a can be described as loud and noisy.

OK ..First of all I want to thank you for your reply Mech. Now the sound is like a knockin / sort of like..tapping sound andwhen I have it parked ...and idling ..alot of guys (men) cause I am a woman....say thinks like ..if you intend to keep driving this truck you better get that sound taking care of..sounds like a rod going through the motor...It does gets louder ..as it gets warm up as I drive it ..it gets louder...please help me someone...also I did take it to the dealer and they put a motor conditoner in and said it may need "new lifters' but try this until next oil change...and another ...dealer said it is full of ..kuck..and sludge build up and oil passage is restricted..but it has its regular oil changes every 5000kms..So I am wondering if there may possible something wrong the motor itself....oh by the way it has only 50,000.kms on it..this sound just started about 2 months ago now...

Sounds like a lifter is sticking... you may very well need new lifters and they are not cheap to have replaced by the dealership.

If the sound is a clicking type noise than its a bad lifter. If its making like a dull thud almost hammering sound the engine has spun a bearing. Lifters if thats what it is from a dealer near me are 350$. I got them straight from mopar performance for 156$ with pushrods. What motor is in your truck?
