Message: Sorry guys, I am sure you have heard these questions before, but i'm new to the site. I am swapping out the 3.9 in my 93 Dakota 4x4 5spd, for a 86-87 LA 318. I have already built the motor, shaved heads, small mods like that. Swapped out the roller lifters for flat lifters(budget). My main questions are concerning mounting. Will stock mounts for 93 Dakotas with v8s work with the LA motor? Also, I am going to mount the serpentine system onto the 318. Will the water pumps swap between the two? Will I need to modify the oil pan? The LA is out of an 86-87 Chrysler fifth avenue. Any help you guys can give me will be very much appreciated. Thank you

Message: It will bolt up but the car oil pan will not fit.
Swapped out the roller lifters for flat lifters(budget).
The older motors did not have roller
lifters
you will need to swap timing cover to run the new
style pump and belt system

Message: An LA block will not bolt into the Magnum engine mounts of the '93 without the bolt-in kit from engine-swaps.com. If it were a Magnum block, it would bolt in. The LA's do not have the mounting points like the Magnums in the lower center of the block. You will need a rear sump oil pan.
Roller lifters were phased into service in the mid-80's depending on the engine and application. The 360 truck motors were last. The 318 car engines were first.
The water pump and fan turn in the opposite direction on the Magnums. Keep this in mind when swapping.

Message: Thanks for the advice guys. It was the mid 80's when roller lifters were installed in the LA 318s. What I did is ordered the rebuild kit for the same year motor, except with flat hydraulic. I wish I could have saved the roller lifter/cam setup, but they weren't salvageable.
Did all of the Magnum 3.9s have roller lifters? Are they the same dimensions as the 318's? What did they do in 93' to get the extra five ponies or however much it was in the 3.9s?
Thanks for the help

Message: IN 93... I think the 5 ponies came from the more free-flowing exhaust manifolds they used.
