its only a dog if you don't pet it. You would be amazed at what a screamer it can be with a few mods.

Message: The 3.9 can be a very economical and good
performing motor with just a few simple boltons
and everything working properly.
My 95 4X4 is pulling over 22mpg with a stock 92
motor.
Stroker will be back soon

Message: I have a 2001 fullsize Ram 1500, 2WD, 3.9 with 5 speed and I get 18-19 mpg on the average. The best ever was 22 mpg on a trip. The worst was 16 mpg around town in the winter. From my understanding the Dakota with 3.9, 4X4 and automatic weighs about the same as my fullsize p/u so you would think the mileage would be closer than 16.5 on the average. A trick that we used to do in the 1970s during the oil crisis was to advance the timing a little. Even if you have to pay extra for 89 octane this would be worthwhile.

Message: They did the first few years with a carb., then throttle body fuel injection up to 1991 (which is what I have). In 1992 they introduced multi port fuel injection and the heads were re-designed = more power. There may be more but these are a few of the differences. Even with at 125 hp mounted to my 5-speed, this truck seems to have decent power, not a race truck but gets me around just fine with no mods.
