Subject: Turbo Charged IP: Logged
Message: I was just wondering if anyone has ever turbo charged a 3.9L, or
if it is even worth trying. Are the internals strong enough to hold
a mild amount of boost or would they just fall apart.

Message: Intensedak39 had a turbo on his 3.9 and it worked
well.
But if you are not familure with the operation and
set up you can do more harm than good they need to
be tuned right
None avalible and you need to build your own from
scratch which I am considering myself sometime.
Right now just to many other projects in the fire
to start another

Message: i ran up to 8# boost with some 10# spikes.. didnt hurt the internals at all. I just blew a couple sets of head gaskets running a little lean on the fuel.

Message: Hey Intense, were you running 21# injectors? If not, do you think that they would have helped?
I'm currently researching the idea (Along with 50% of the guys on the 6er forum) whatever tips you can give us would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Message: i was running 24 lb injectors...
my stock fuel pump was getting starved... if i had bought the Holley 255lph and got an adjustable regulator with a boost port, all would have been good.
I only blew the gaskets when i reved the hell out of it... fuel starvation and boost tend to do that to em.

Message: What you guys need to do is some resurch on the
net about turbo charging
compreser maps
actuators
blow offs
pyrometer to read temps
boost retard control
You can run without an intercooler but you will
see less gain and do need to watch the timing and
fuel
I am running a 200 GPH fuel pump at 55psi and
19# FMS injectors on my stroked V6 after talking
with Bruce from fivo on the injectors at 55psi
they are running eqiv to q 22# injector
I also run a Nordask A/F meter on its own o2 to
monitor my air fuel ratio, the stock comps will
not run a stroked motor right and you need to
be able to control your fuel, the best way to
set this up is on a dyno with a wide band o2
reading the ratio
You can also run another injector to add fuel
under boost.
But all I can say is you need to know what your
doing or you may end up with a melt down
I will be building a turbo setup myself as soon
as I get to it just to many other things to do
right now.
Mine will be a duel turbo set up still gathering
parts as I run accros them maybe by this fall
I will be ready to begain the project
