Subject: Gear Ratios IP: Logged
Message: Hey everybody! The kid is back with another question. My 2000 Dakota SLT will only go about 98 miles per hour at the fastest. My moms 2000 4-Runner will do 108 with ease. I think that it has something to do with the gear ratios. Is this true and if so, can I change mine to do that?

Message: There is a built in speed limiter for around 100 mph.
You can get a Superchips programmer for your truck that will add power and remove that limiter!

Message: My truck has 3.92 gears. I have topped it out at 105 and had plenty more to go. I am almost positive I could have hit 120. That is with no mods to the truck at all. So..I dont know.

Message: I figured that there was a limiter on the truck around 100. How fast will the truck go without the limiter?

Message: With 3.92 gear ratio, the stock automatic transmission, and the
red line at 4800, you can go 138 mph in O/D without the speed
limiter.
