I have a 97 dakota 4x4 with a 3.9. When it shifts from 2nd to 3rd it slips. Does this mean new tranny time or is this something that can be fixed without replacing it? It shifts fine in all other gears just from 2nd to 3rd, If anyone could help i would really appreciate it.

Not sure if your problem is same as mine, but I had a slight slipping too. Possible the seals in the trans are starting to dry out allowing fluid to pass by. This reduces fluid pressure in the trans and causes the slipping. Buy some GUNK trans fluid conditioner, $3 at Walmart. This will soften those seals and treat the fluid. Mine shifts a lot better now.
