Message: What kind of inprovement will a shift kit give me? Right now my second gear is getting soft and slip's out on cold morning's a couple times then runs fine. Would a shift kit help this problem? How much do they usaully cost and how much of a job would it be to install one? My truck is a 95 4x4 ext cab with and auto transmission.

Message: Shift kits are cheap, about $70, and they are easy for anyone to install as long as you are careful and get all the springs and checkballs back in the right place.
A shift kit increases the pressures in the transmission and reduces clutch slippage which will make your trans last longer and hold up to more power and abuse...as long as your trans is in good shape. If your tranny is already slipping you have internal parts and clutches that are worn and need to be replaced. If you install a shift kit in a tranny that is already acting up it will tear it apart in no time.
I wouldn't install a shift kit in any tranny that's not in perfect condition.

Message: The tranny was just put in 7,000 miles ago. It was a used rebuilt one. So i hope the that it is not already worn out. Could the slipping be low fluid in the tranny?

Message: Mine has the exact same problem... I adjusted my tv cable slightly today to see if the slack in it was causing the slippage. We'll see tomorrow morning if it does... I'll post Friday evening if it fixed it (gonna be outta town with no internet from tomorrow til then). Also I agree with the above post...if the tranny isn't in perfect condition, I wouldn't install the kit. I read somewhere that it could possibly even make the tranny go out very quickly if you installed the kit in one with existing problems.
