Subject: v6 stroker question IP: Logged
Message: i know a few of you have stroked out your v6s and i just want to know what you think of it. is it worth the 3k? i am going to do one of following to my 96 v6-v8 swap or keep the v6 and supercharge it or stroke it. i would prefer strokin because of all the low end torque...ive heard almost 300ft/lb@2000rpm. just let me know how you guys feel. Thanks, Steve

Message: Stroken out the v6 would be more economical "fuel mileage wise, and lets face it, gas aint gettin any cheaper", and a little easier as far as having to change out your tranny/bellhousing and everything else for the v8, BUT I sure don't think your going to get 300ft/lbs torque from this one mod... I know these v6's have large amounts of torque stock, but don't know about that kinda jump... I thought the stroker kits were around $2500, but with gaskets and everyhing I guess it would be around $3000... I know hughesengines and krc both have stroker kits available for the 3.9's and maybe even v8performance or socaldakota does to but I honestly don't know... Larry is the one who you need to really talk to on this one, because he can fill you in on all of the nice benefits from this...
I think the SC does add right at 100 extra hp and might be your best route for extra performance, but not as much economical wise if that's what you want...
Wait for Larry on all of the goody type of the details... Hope I helped a little at least...
Greg

Message: wow greg you are a freaking moron. i dont even know where to begin correcting that staement.
They tranny and bellhousing is a direct swap from the v6 to v8. Only strokerkits.com sells the 3.9 crank. A properly built v8 will smoke the strked 3.9 in a gass millage test
supercharger doesnt add an extra 100hp...rule of thumb on a properly built motor 1 psi equals 10hp. On a stockish 3.9 youd run 6 psi and maybe see 50hp.

Message: Freakin moron eh... Well I don't know about the crank, but as far as that goes any respectable engine shop can machine out one of those for you for the right price...
Your gas mileage statement, well you show or name me one built v8 that gets 25mpg in the daks...
And for your rule of thumb a SC running on 8psi on the v6's will add around 100 extra hp... Go to krc or hughes and they'll clearly show you that if you've got the same amount of air going into the v6 as a v8 the v6 will get more power "close to double" then the v8 gets... Your statement can be taken as true on some engines, but even some v8's I've seen built will gain 200hp with the right heads and intake to go along with the blower setup...

Message: look, im just tryin to get some info about stroker crank kits and stuff. not to listen to people whine about someone tryin to help. hater, do you honestly thing my stock ax15 tranny could even handle the power of a built v8? yes, you would have to change the tranny. now, if anybody has anything helpful to say, feel free to do so. that is what this site is all about. Message: so larry, where did you get your stuff from? is stroker kits the only place, or does hughes and krc have them too? ill probabily call them today. what else have you done? my block has 120k, can i just bore it out a little and put in oversize rings so i dont have to get a new block? i also want 1.6 or 1.7 roller rockers (not sure what one is best yet), port and polished heads, a 48 or 50mm tb, a cam and new push rods all probabily from krc. please give me any suggestions or ideas you may have. thanks, Steve

Message: you said normal mileage for the v6 is 20 to 22, then why does my 93 average 13 to 16 on the highway? is there something that i could do to pick up some extra mileage?...and no its not my heavy foot either.

Message: On the mileage you need to have everything working
just right.
cold air
bigger TB
1.7 rollers
Ign optional
headers and low restriction exh
injector sync at 0 to +3 and you will get good
mileage and performance
The injector sync engine temp and IAT need to be
good for gas mileage even on a stock motor and be
sure your plugs are running tan not white or black
if they are wrong temp and every truck is diff so
this needs to be checked
stroker kits yes my guy has not gotten any more billets to grind for V6
And yes Hughes engines is also checking into the
kits they offer after talking with me about my
stroked V6's
I have 2 now 1 3.58 and 1 4.0 stroke these 2
cranks by themselfs cost me $3000 not including
rods and pistons

Message: i figure ill just put in a 5.2 and stroke it to 390ci. i called hughes engines yesturday and the guy there changed my mind so...i will actually be cheaper and i will probabily get some nicer numbers. i plan on puttin in a nv3500, will that fit prefectly between my bell housing and t case? will the t case handle the v8? Thanks, Steve
