Subject: one last time intake manifold IP: Logged
Message: oik i just got done cleaning my intake manifold and i have some questions on what to do when i start cutting it up. for the runners im planning on cutting them down about a 1 1/2 is this correct or could i take more out of em? im looking for more power between 2000-red line should i take out the divider or just cut that down? im gasket matching the ports. and should i touch the injector bosses at all? and for top of the intake where the tb sits, should i touch that at all or leave it alone? my mods are, cold air intake, v8 tb, msd 6a, blaster ss, foms 19lb injectors, 1.7 rr, flowmaster 40 series, nx kit not installed yet but will run a 75 100 on some days. for gears i have 390's.

Message: Cutting down the runners will give you more power around the 3500 to redline range. Shortening them gives you less low end torque. On my truck a gasket matched the ports and polished the whole inside of the manifold but i didn't cut it down at all. Works good, i'm not sure how much i gained though.

Message: The intake was designed to give a burst just off
idle.
shortening the runners will raise this
Stock length is aprox 16"
going to 14" will move this burst upto 2000 rpm
and tune the manifold for 2000 to 4000 rpm and
is a very noticeable gain, with no low end loss
torque peak at 3200rpm
HP peak at 4400rpm
Why not tune the intake for this range, its a good
idea and helps a lot on the V6
And yes do shorten the devider if your 92 to 95
96 and up without the ERG you can take it all the
way down
going 12" not recommended for most will tune the
intake for 3000 to 6000 rpm and a low end loss
will be very noticeable
Match the ports as best you can and on the top just
remove the factory burr most intakes are left with.
On the inside where the injectors enter just radius
around the hole, it will let the spray pattern fan out
a little better especially if you run the better FMS
injectors
