Hello all,
The cruise control on my 2000 Dakota (33,000 miles) has come on by itself 3 times in the last month. Once it took over the pedal for a second (sitting still at a stoplight no less)- I have been able to hit off and have it disengage every time so far. Anyone have this problem? Better yet, anyone know how to disable cruise on a 2000? I can't seem to find a fuse. I don't want to end up like one of those horror stories where the cruise takes over and just keeps accelerating.

I would have the dealer look at it, since it's a safety issue you might get them to warrenty it. I'm assuming the 2000 dakota doesn't have electronic throttle control so it should be as simple as disconnecting the cruis control cable. I definitely wouldn't drive around with out getting it looked at though.

Btw is it factory cruise or aftermarket?

Hey there,
Thanks for the reply. It is factory equipped cruise control. I figured the best bet was the dealer, but was hoping to find a way to disconnect it until I could spare the time to leave it. Could you tell me where the cable would be able to be disconnected?

Is this a 3.9 5.2 or 5.9

right on the TB next to the throttle cable

you can follow the cable back and will see it
goes to a big sort of round thing, a big Vacume
Pot that is the cruse cable

open the throttle and push the cable back on
the stud most are a disk type on cruse, than with
a little sgrew driver release the clips on the
cable bracket and move the cable off to the
side away from the the throttle linkage if you
need to tap or wire tie so it don't end up in the
fan or belt tie to the side out of the
way

The 2002 with only 33,000 is still under warantee
take it to the dealer and they can fix it

tell them you disconected the cable because it was
a hazzard and dangerise to drive that way and
had no choice or they could have towed it in.

Which also might be a good idea call them and tell
them what is going on, if the problem has the
potential to cause an acsident they will come
and tow or flat bed your truck to the dealer
free of charge

Just make the point very clear that it is a danger
to drive
