Okay, I have heard a lot about what all you have to do when you switch out your 3.9L. what is the real story, please help!

The basics are the same no matter what year, but some specifics would help. If you use a Magnum V8, it'll pop right into place, even the GenI's just like the V6 bolts in. LA V8's require custom mounts. http://www.engine-swaps.com has the bolt-in kit. A stronger tranny helps. Use at least the 8 1/4 rear. Induction? PCM? Carb or throttle body? It depends on which way you wanna go, and how much you want to incorporate into the existing wiring. On GenI's, you'll need to add an electric fan since there's no room for the engine-driven one.

You'll need the computer for the new motor. You might want a
bigger tranny too, since you'll be putting more power through it,
but your stock one will work. Thats pretty much it, all your
accessories should hook up the same way as before.
What year is it anyway? What year do you want to swap into it?

I have a 1997 3.9 and have been looking into swapping for the 5.2L V8. If I was to buy the Magnum V8 for that model year, would it bolt right up to the original tranny? This would be a lot of help.
A local speed shop said that I would HAVE to swap tranny's as well, but I need to know for sure b4 I go drop $1500 on a new tranny.

olddak, hope you dont have a 4x4, ive heard they dont have the room for a v8. just found that on a post from a few years ago while researching the same thing. if you want some big torue, you can stroke the 318 to 390 for 1845, just check out hughesengines.com
xsspl, 1500 for a tranny?! what are you puttin in? an nv3500 (stock v8 5 speed tranny) is only about 800-1000. Steve
