Subject: Doing a rebuild on my '90 3.9 IP: Logged
Message: My buddy and I just started a rebuild project on my 90 3.9 dakota engine. We got the motor out of the truck, and got it all torn down. With 220,000 miles on it, it is in very good condition so far. There are still some faint hatch marks on the cyl walls, and the pistons look to be in good shape. The rings are pretty worn down however. It has been blowing some major oil, and the oil pressure at idle has been bad. The heads and valves and crank are at the machinists right now getting some light polishing. Any tips for me on the re-assembly?

Message: We only have about 4 bolts that we have sitting on the bench that we are not sure about where they go....Im sure we will be ok, 3 of them are probably for either the Alt. bracket or the power steering bracket, and I THINK one of them is the missing starter bolt.

Message: grind the crank .010 under new bearings, oil pump
and lifters will solve the low oil presure
New rings and valve seals will solve the buring
of oil
check the bore for ware you can go .030 over on
the pistons but would need to get it bored
Most auto stores make rebuild kits for the V6
that has everything you need to do the overhall
mopar also makes 2 nice cams for the pre mag
engines
towing rv idle to 4500
performance rv 1500 to 5000 rpm with nice gains
2500 and up pulls real good
