Subject: 2000 3.9 wet weather problems IP: Logged
Message: Hello, I have a 2000 2wd 3.9L dakota. Whenever i drive in rain the engine misses and coughs, when i wash the truck it wont start again for about 5 minutes. When it does start it runs poorly and coughs and pops through the exhaust. After it runs awhile it smooths out and runs fine..What could be getting wet..sprayed water on coil while running but didnt seem to make it worse. anyone had similar problems?

Message: When it gets dark out to night start up your truck and spray the plug wires with water from a squirt bottle If you see tiny lightning bolts and here snap crackle and pop its time te replace your plug wires. Replace the plugs, cap, and rotor while your at it.

Message: yeah if it still has the stock plugs wires cap and rotor its time for a tuneup.
Just my .02
oh and imho the autozone brand "double silicone" wires are junk. don't use them. get something good like accell, msd, taylor, etc. my super stock accell wires (23.99 at jeg's p/n 110-4040R universal non angled plug boots)
they are so high quality that i think they will outlast my dak ;-) and they are RED kewl!!!!

Message: Hey there, I'm having some major issues with my truck stalling after idling or in wet weather too. Won't start for about 1/2 hour--I am stumped! Had the fuel pump and assy changed last year-have taken it back 4 times and the mechanics laugh at me! They say there's nothing wrong-I'm about to blow a gasket! Any ideas??
