Message: I have a 99 CC V6 3.9 with a drop in K&N air filter. I see you say that they love cold air to help with MPG and low end torque. I live in Minnestoa is their such a thing a to much cold air comming in? I thaught I read that if you get to cold of air it will richen your mixture and then decrease MPG. I was thinking of putting on a home brew kit. Any other suggestions on improving MPG?

Yes any improvements you do to the intake side
will be noticeable in both performance and gas
mileage
do the crank sensor mod to grap 3 to 4 degree
timing advance
Heres what to shoot for
#1 cold air
#2 bigger throttle body
A v8 throttle body if your short on cash
If not and can handle $250 it will be money well
spent and you will love the aftermarket TB's
Either the 46mm fastman or the 48mm F&B throttle
bodies will give you noticeable gains from off
idle to redline upon bolting them on, after a few
hundred miles you will love it.
The V8 bodies help mid and top but the off idle
low end remains the same and some trucks even lose
a little low end not true with the other 2
a budget way to go.
Now with the cold air and bigger TB enter the 1.7
roller rockers
for a stock motor the harland & sharp I will be
using these myself in my stock motor at the end of
this month they will be going in.
Less friction and heat, adds about 4 degrees
duration to the cam and .030 lift.
The harland aand sharp just bolt in no adjusting
and a easy 15 to 18 hp gain.
Do these 3 things and you will pickup 20 to 30
hp at the rear wheels.
now move on to the ignition,
MSD 6a box, coil and wires
At this point of the build a good set of FMS
injectors will pick up 5 hp in the mid and top
end
After that you can pick up 5 to 15 more with a
set of headers and a low restriction exh
This will all run good with the stock computer
now try the super chips tunner on the 98 up and
you should be around 150 RWHP
most stock trucks dyno between 90 and 120 RWHP
on a good day
