Subject: Dynomax resonance?
IP: Logged

Message:
I've installed a Dynomax Superturbo on my '03 Dak with the 3.9. Love the sound most of the time but when just holding speed at at anywhere between 1500 and 1900rpm the noise in the cab is getting to me.
Would a resonator help? I know nothing about exhaust systems and any suggestions are welcome.

just turn up your radio. or maybe put somemore insulation on the bottom of your cab. im like you and dont know too much about exhaust, but a resonator only elimiinates some of the higher picthed noises and amplifies the deeper ones for a better exhaust note. Steve

Dynomax 17748

if you got a short one they will hum a lot the
17748 has an overall length of 22 or 26"

Its a nice big low restriction muff the shorties
will hum you out of the cab

sounds good with a single 2.5 factory tail gives
you some nice low end gains and better gas mileage

I believe the Dyno Part # is 17745. Its 25.5 inches long. It sounds great except for the resonance? in the cab. Ive had it on for about 2500 mi. and can't tell any big difference in power or milage.
I like the sound at idle and at speed but the droning noise in the cab at low speed/rpm is about to drive me back to stock.
I'm wondering if the droning comes from the muffler itself and if maybe welding a brace on the shell would help. It almost sounds like a stereo speaker problem where you get a resonance at certain frequencies and a little sound dampener at the right place will solve the problem, maybe a steel plate welded to the side would help, no?

I just installed a DynoMax Super Turbo 17710 on my new 2004 QC and am getting similar resonance between 1650 - 1850 RPM.

Other than the resonance, I love the sound, but something's gotta give... I've emailed Tech Support, since they have a 90 day satisfaction guaranteed warranty....

You may want to do something similar. If nothing else it should get you satisfaction even if you have to change out the muffler.
