Just put a new distrib in mine last month. Put distrib. back in exactly as old came out then timed to 10deg with timing light to get it exact and is running great. Thanks tho.

Diane - I'm glad whatever you did worked out for you and your truck is running great, but ask Larry or anyone else who knows their stuff, you CANNOT set base ignition timing on these motors by rotating the distro, the PCM controls it exclusively.

Ok, I think I got it straight now. You can adjust base timing on your '88, Sandy cannot on the '92.

Bump that up to 12 degree's before TDC you will
get a little more performance and better gas
mileage
You can go upto 15 on most of the older daks
before you get any ping and than they run good
on mid range fuel

A friend is considering a 3.9 V6 engine with over 200,000 miles to replace his with a sucked valve. Is this worthwhile or is he getting the same problem that he is replacing?

my 97 dak runs 100% better when she gets top quality gas on a
regular basis, 170,000 miles and running strong...
