Subject: Engine ticking, but just when cold? IP: Logged
Message: When I first start up the cold motor, it will tick a little. It doesn't do it any other time. If it's still hot, starts up great. It just worries me a little bit. I can't tell that it's getting any worse, just wanted to know what might be causing this. Any ideas?

Message: Could be a noisy lifter? When my dad first starts his van up (the lifters are bad), they'll tick pretty loud and then after about 15 seconds, they'll quit.

Message: Probably, if you want 100% confirmation... since our van is a lease and is out of warranty. The "click click click click" coming from the general location of the lifters was enough for my dad. Especially after the local dealership told him it'd cost somewhere around $1500 to replace them.

Message: Yes the lifters on these trucks at around 100,000
do sometimes make noise on a cold start the colder
the worse they will be.
Just let it idle until it pumps back up and you
will be fine
If your running a cheap Fram like from walmart get
that off of there it will also contribute to a bad
lifter because the check valve is made of
cardboard and will leak down faster.
Wix is a good filter and will help with that
There are also some lifter additives out there
that will help the lifters and most times does
help.
You can buy a new set of lifters for $114 and
the intake gasket set for $30 if you can do it
yourself you save big time on labor
