Are the 3.9L's known for worn lifters? What are the problems in the valvetrain area on these motors?

Its not the lifters but the timing chain rattle

There is a tensioner made by mopar to solve the
problem

Its not the lifters making the noise but does
sound like it

I know thats what I thought was the noise too. I had the chain and tensioner replaced. That only solved most of the noises the motor makes. I am still wondering if the noise coming from under each valve cover is a worn lifter or rocker arm on each side. Thanks for your help Larry. It's nice to know that there is someone to always lend a helping hand.

I have a slight tap noise coming from under my valve covers as well. I just noticed it while I was looking at the area around the air box, in preparation for the intake mod. Is it normal to have a little valve tap, or is this something I should have looked at?

once in a while my 3.9 ticks in the rear driver's side cover (cyl 6?) it only does it about 2 times a month. i think it might have something to do with my cheap fram tough guard filters, i am going to try a napa gold filter. (made by wix) to see if that helps against drainback.

just my .02
