Subject: Hows is this exhaust idea? IP: Logged
Message: While I was in the shower I had this idea (for some reason thats where it always happens). The vehicle in question is a 01 CC/LB v6/2wd/5spd. These appear to have three cats, basically two cats that collect into one, then a 2.5" intermediate pipe that goes to a big muffler. My goal: get an unrestricted exhaust that sounds quieter than stock above 3,000rpm. If I were to get a single inlet/dual outlet high flow cat to replace the "3rd" cat, I would have two intermediate pipes running side by side. Now, a 190hp engine needs an exhaust that "freeflows" up to 418cfm to achieve zero power loss. So I buy a pair of low output cylindrical mufflers (7" diameter NOT glasspacks). I clamp and weld them side by side if room allows, or staggard if I need another few inches. Then I clamp and weld their tailpipes going over the axle to exit at each rear corner. What do you guys think? Has this been done before with my intended results? Any possible clearance issues? Do you think it should keep the noise down?
