Alright i decided to go and find a flowmaster deltaflow 40 series... now my question.. should i go with a catback system or just a muffler? and what if i had the exit before the tire instead of behind it? is that possible? and has anyone ever done it?

I have a 1991 dakota, and i put a 3 chamber 30 series flowmaster with single inlet and dual outlet, with two pipes comming out the back. I would replace the CAT for sure. When i got my muffler i replaced my CAT with a high flow CAT. the Stock dodge CAT are brutal. You should'n have to exit out before the tire, it should go out behind, or even out the back if you want. Hope that Helped

use a gibson split rear on your dak or another brand. v8s sound totaly different than v6s. if you go before the tire you wont have the back pressure you need(it will run like crap).check out the gibson, thats what i have, it sounds great, nice idle and a loud rip at 2500 rpms.

98 black sport,gibson split rear,180 tstat,accel 300+, jba headers,k&n filter, lots of xtras.

I am afraid you are wrong about the before the tires thing I have a single in double out flowmaster delta flow 50 with 3 inch in a double 2 inch out right before the rear tires and it flows real good and I lost no backpressure I actually gained some and really gained alot in the 1500-3500 rpm range and my 0-60 time seems much faster but I have a extended cab so the shorty catback is not really as short as a regulat cabs would be and my flows sound like a v8 most of the time.

metalgreen 3in 2out ext cab(meaning longer exhaust, foot'n half there 'bouts)hell yes that will work! the 50 has more chambers for more backpressure for a more mellow sound. your talking in circles.

if you still have a cat you will have plenty of back pressure....the idea is to have as little after the cat as possible.

i have a 40 series flowmaster dumped and it was a big improvement over my dynomax.

Intense, do you have the Delta Flow or the regular 40 series, and how do you like it?

I am not using pipes after the muffler. My plan is to just put a turndown tip on the muffler. In this case should I get an offset exit? My entire exhaust will look like this:
New JBA ceramic coated headers
New high performance cat(maybe, heard this wasn't neccesary)
Flowmaster 40 series Delta Muffler
I was just going to have a shop weld everything together. Does this sound ok?

C'mon bro, too expensive? With all that you have done to your truck already? It's only a few bucks more than the non delta isn't it? Thanks for the info by the way.

everything looks good! (or sounds good). there is a $20-30 difference....that could go and buy me a iat adjuster or something.
yeah, tom just informed me that you will need at least a turndown pipe after a flow.....they work better with a least four inches of pipe after the muff.

whatever you do dont listen to mike about cutting the cat off. I did that with my flowmaster 40 and personally I hate it. I am putting a Magnaflow Cat back on thursday since it should be here wed. It sounds kinda cool as it, but its way too loud and gets ricey between 2k-3k rpm. my advice, leave the stock cat, put a 50 series single in dual out and run pipes out in front of the tires like you wanted...

brett, depending on the look you want go with the same thing or just change the muffler. the stock pipe flows plenty good for a v-6 unless you plan to supercharge.

would placing the pipes infront of the tires be any different in sound or performance than running them behind the rear tires? It's illegal to run them infront of the tires here in Canada
