Subject: 98 3.9 no start no spark IP: Logged
Message: I have a 98 3.9 that turns over but no spark the coil gets power briefly when key on but I believe the ASR prevents the coil from remaining hot.
I've read some of the posts about the corroded wire in the harness but I can't seem to locate it.
Also the fuel pump does run and there is fuel pressure but not sure how much.
So far I've changed the coil plus cap rotor plugs and wires..Also tried restting the computer...
Any ideas.
The truck has twice very briefly started and run for maybe 15-20 secs but not well... actually sounded like it was dieseling...
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Message: Thanks... I have to replace it anyway as I broke the old one taking it out to see if it could be tested.. Would the cam sensor cause a similar problem?
I did find a splice in the harness but it looked good plus all the relays appear to be OK
Had to order a crank sensor through the dealer ($120) since NAPA didn't show one for a manual trans. Autozone didn't say there was a difference but dodge claim that the sensor is different for auto vs man
Hope that does the trick..

Message: no codes.. I'd disconnected the battery when replacing the tune up parts though.
It ran fine then sat for 3 weeks in 10-15 degree temps don't know if that's just co-incidence...
Strange that it would start up a couple of times though...

Message: Thanks whitedakota2....
replaced the crank sensor and it started right up...
I've read since that you can't pull codes from 98 year using the key on-off-on-off-on or by holding down the trip set while turning on the ignition.. It really doesn't make sense that there were no codes stored...
Anyway hope my problem solution will help the forum out a little...
