Hello:
I have a 1993 Dodge Dakota, extended cab, 3.9 liter, four speed automatic (overdrive). Now, can someone please tell me if I can tow a pop up trailer with this truck if I set it up with a class III hitch? More importantly, what is the towing capacity of this truck? The owners manual simply does not give me the information I need. Thank you to anyone who can help!!

I can remember for sure but check the inside of the door panel. They should be a sticker there with a bunch of information relating to your truck and what it can tow. Your dakota should tow whatever pop-up trailer that you have.

i have the same truck and i found that i cant pull the boat i have but it is a pretty large boat, if its a smaller pop up or even a mid range i wouldnt blink an eye at it, just keep it out of overdrive and i think you should be fine as long as youre not going for a 10 hour drive with it. Was the transmission ever rebuilt because if not and you end up getting it rebuilt i strongly advise you get a shift kit put in it give your truck a little more pulling power. let me know how it goes im thinking about getting a pop up

I sure appreciate the information on the Dakota. This little truck has 85,000 miles on it and was in mint condition when I bought it a year ago this March. I changed everything over to Amsoil including flushing the tranny. I haven't had any trouble with the truck since I got it and am really happy with it. I just didn't want to jump in over my head and get a pop up trailer without getting some information from people who know these trucks a little better than I do. The pop up we are looking at weighs in at about 2,700 unloaded. I sure thank you for your help and opinion. Boy, all of these numbers!

I know that this doesn't help much, but I have the same truck (except mine is 4x4) and I believe that the tow rating is somewhere around 3500-4000 lbs. I tow a 1000 lbs Seadoo with mine. Since it only weighs 1000 lbs, I keep mine in overdrive on the highway. 2700 lbs will be quite a load for the 3.9, but I think that you can pull it if you keep it out of overdrive. Good luck!
