Ok I was wondering if there was any possible way to get 300hp out of my 3.9 with out N2O. It's the EFI version. Is it possilbe at all? I've geven up hope looking of a 4bbl intake and a vac advance distributer. If it is not possible what is a more reasonable goal for horse power.

The 3.9 heads respond to the same mods as the LA's it was derived from. If you're stuck with the EFI setup, you'd need the 360 TBI and computer. Have the heads hogged out to 360 size, including the valves. Have the intake port-matched (and runners opened up) to the 360-sized head ports. You'll need a cam ground to meet these requirements. Any reputable cam grinder can set you up. I've had great experiences with Competition Cams. You can score 300hp with a cam with specs like the CompCams Xtreme Energy 268 (gross valve lift .477/.480).
You could also snoop around for these Mopar Performance parts that were made for the pre-Magnum V6. There might be some lying around in someone's inventory.
P4452814 Cam with .450/.455 lift.
P4452747 Race ported head to 360 specs. Good for 30hp on performance v6.
P4452114 M1 V6 4bbl intake. Standard Holley carb flange with EGR. Larger runners. I'd figure out how to mate that injector to this sucker if I found one. Try the big Mopar conventions and swap meets if any happen near you or eBay. I actually snagged my M1 for 360 for $100 by running the part number in a search engine. It was a new pull from a crate engine. You just never know til you do a little digging.

You can definately get 300 hp out of your 3.9. It won't be the cheapest thing though. With exhaust, headers, upgraded pcm, a chip, upgraded ignition, rockers, cam, v8 throttle body, and underdrive pulley you would probably be at almost 300 horsepower. Then you could always get your heads ported and polished, throw in some aftermarket pistons and you'll be all set. Just the problem is do you have $3000 to spend? You're better off getting a 318 or 360 porting it and polishing it throw in a couple of aftermarket items and you would be over 300.

Yeah I could get a 318 or 360 but i want to be a little different i don't have the $$$ yet. When i get rid of my 88 dak I pulling the engine b/c it only got 20,000 miles on it since I replaced it a year and a half ago and save it until i have the cash to build it and throw it into a dak that is in better shape.

It looks to me like people are being optomistic about how easy power comes in a premag 3.9. With the M1 intake really hard to some by and its size and low flowing heads it would take a heck of a lot, probably forced induction to reach 300hp. I would say somewhere around 200 is the best you could hope for, adn even that would be really modified. If you want 300 hp your best bet is a 318 or 360. It would cost way less to get one of them running in the 300 range, and you would probably end up with an engine with way more low end doing that.

Gonna go out on a limb here....
If installing mag heads on an LA (premag) small block is as easy as swapping lifters and push rods, shouldn't the swap be as easy on a 3.9?
If so, you will get at least 20+ hp from a head swap and who knows with porting.
I have cut down the rocker shaft for a small block V8 and adapted it to a premag 3.9. With that just about every aftermarket rocker is an option for you.
Imo, 300 is a long shot naturally aspirated. Not impossible but as other have stated it will cost quite a bit more than a V8 swap. I however do understand your desire for uniqueness and respect that.
I must warn you....theres no way a n/a premag 3.9 pushing 300 hp will be very drivable. You will need crazy lift and duration on the cam and a very high stall on the converter (if auto) to get a 3k+lbs truck moving with a power band that starts @4k rpm (estimating on that).
If you decide to undertake this project I wish you success.

i,m doing a premag[89]v6 now,.030 over pistons,hughes cam,97 mag heads,mild port job,
with a dyno laptop program,it came out to 250hp@the crank,thats about 200hp to the wheels and 200tq @ 2800rpm[if this is right,i just doubled the hp]only time will tell
thats not figuring in tb,chip,ignition or exh.,
i not sure how right this program is,cause it had a problem with the cam spec
once i get it done and broke-in i want to dyno it to see what the #s really are

I'd say talk to larry if you are serious. His stroker is a pretty stout streetable truck. I am sure you could talk to him to get a baseline on prices and ideas. You will need to stroke it to get higher displacement to get 300 horses. personally i would stroke it and then go forced induction netting you 300. that way its streetable and still unique. i mean who has a crazy stroked, blown premag dakota?

Hi I`m from argentina and I have a 1994 dakota with the 239 or 3.9 magnum v6 which is still working perfect but i want to rebuilt the engine and take more hp from it but in my country this car isn`t so known because is it imported.
For this reason i`m writing for you to ask if you can send me some recomendations, links, information of the engine and directions where i can buy some parts or find some information
