Message: mmm sounds like maybe yout tps (throttle positon sensor) might be bad or maybe you just need to clean your iac valve and/or throttle body. full instructions here
http://www.speedtweaks.ca/tipsandtricks.php
i think theres a way to check the tps without a scanner (ask Larry or Will) i dont really know how to check/adjust it.
hope i helped a little

Message: TPS voltage center wire and ground drivers side
of TB.
Does it happen more often when the gas tank is
under half full.
It may be a pump going bad you can check the fuel
preser 45 to 50 pounds but it may not show as bad
but still could be the pump.
The throttle body just flows air not fuel
How about trying some isapropal heat in the tank
maybe had some condesation Water in the gas
could also be a sensor acting up
engine temp or IAT

Message: Larry
I really haven't noticed if it doe's it more depending how much fuel I have in the tank? My gas gauge suck's as soon as I get to around 1/2 a tank it drop's to empty I go by mileage.Would you recomend changing the iac/or the tps sensor? I can buy them both for under 60$ buck's so I would rather do that then clean them since my truck has almost 69k on her. Also I still am stumped with my eng light coming on then going off,it will read" 21 " evan with my brand new 02's I guess maybe one of them is defective? but I'm not sure how to check other than running an actual scanner? The fuel pump is in the tank on our dakotas right?

Message: I had the same thing 3 years ago, check your fuel pump and filter. If your gas gauge stops working around a half tank, its the sending unit, which came with the fuel pump.
