Subject: Radiator question IP: Logged
Message: Hi, a question about radiators.
I hit a nasty bump a while ago (rain rut on a dirt road) and my radiator actually came off its mounts (didn't figure it out immediately). It was also dark (no street lights or moon light for that fact) and I ended up driving a bit after it did it. Noticed some strange noises, but in the process of figuring out what they were, the truck started to run hotter than it usually does, so it got turned off immediately, and luckilly at this point there was a street light close by. Then determined that the only thing that kept the radiator from falling all the way through was the fan shroud (sp?).
Anyway, result from all this is that my radiator now leaks very slowly from around the top seal. It doesn't leak as the truck is running, but when the truck is off it leaks some. At times enough leaks out to drip on the ground. I would say the most I have ever seen on the ground would be like maybe 3/4 of a cup poured out. Is this leak fixable (a new gasket or something) or am I pretty much hosed and require a new radiator?
Thanks for any info you can give.

Message: A competent radiator repair shop could repair it - but I would replace the radiator - especially if you intend to keep the truck.

Message: I would take Tom's advise and just replace it.I just replaced mine a couple of month's ago I was gonna have the rad/shop replace the gasket but the cost of the fix that could be only temporary wasn't worth it...

Message: Sweet, thanks for the info. I haved changed it before, so I know how to do it, was just wondering if it was something cheap like a gasket that needed to be replaced instead of just pulling the whole thing. I would rather do it myself too, so looks like I will just replace. I am planning on keeping this truck for at least a couple of years

Message: The gaskets on the end tanks are replaceable. But it will leak again. Just try to recrimp the tank. And if that dosen't work, replace the radiator.
