Subject: Acceleration Problem IP: Logged
Message: I have a severe acceleration problem on a 1992 V-6 3.9L Automatic with 150,000 miles. I can only press the accelerator down about a half an inch. Any more than that the engine cuts out/ will not fire. The engine has plenty of power as I can hold the brake and accelerate to the point of the engine overpowering the brakes, while at a stop.
I replaced the fuel filter. The fuel pump is making a lot of noise. I havn't ruled out fuel rate/pressure problem but I wouldn't think I could power tourque the engine or reach 55 mph, which I can given a few minutes.
I suspect a sensor problem.
How do I pin point the problem?

Take it to a mechanic that has a scanner, watch the O2 to see if the engine is running lean or rich. Also it could be a TPS as suggested above.

Message: I tested the voltage on the TPS it increased evenly from .75V to 2.5V.
I replaced the coil thinking it may be a weak spark but that really went against the fact that It had power while brake tourqing.
While test driving I noticed that the engine didn't really cut out all the way, there was some missfiring. I verified that the pulse ring in the distributor wasn't loose. I had super glued it the previous day.
I started to focus on the fuel delivery. I noticed a schrader valve on the fuel rail. I bled out air and it is running much better! I still can't fully accellerate. Air may be leaking into the fuel lines as it is driven. I will focus on the air in the fuel lines for now.
I am unable to get any flashes to reveal codes. I try the on off, 3,4 and 5 times method. I tried clearing it by disconnecting the battery also.

If not, see if you can get to a station a fill it. Then see how it drives.
