Subject: mopar performance PCM Vs. Chips/Tuners IP: Logged
Message: I've been reading... and reading... and reading these threads. But I still am left wondering.. What is the best route to go with aftermarket chips and comps?
I'm having trouble with the mopar website in finding a Performance PCM for a V6. Someone said I could use the V8, but what about the 2 extra cylinder fires?
Also, Jet chips have been pooped on royally. Really that bad?
Next, the superchip tuner. I've read that they don't really work for people that have more than just an intake and exhaust mod.
Finally, when the hell is Hypertech gonna make us a tuner???
If money wasn't an option, what would you pick? (part number and website please)

Message: You only have one choice. There is no PCM for the 97 + up 3.9 Dakotas. The jet chip is not worth the $300+ it goes for (I have one). The superchips would be the only way to go. You could send your PCM out for a custom flash but it will be for very specific things and cost probably $400 and up.

Message: Gestalt, Here is my 2 cents worth, if you can go with the Super-chips tuner, here why. Using the tuner allows you to convert your stock pcm into a performance pcm by remapping fuel and timing curves and changing you rev limiter setting. It will also let you change the speedometer setting for different rim and tire sizes. The tuner also gives you the option of going back to your stock settings if the need arises (IE., emissions testing). Besides you can you use the super-chips tuner to scan for codes and clear a check engine light. The performance pcm can also be a good choice, but limits your choices. It mostly likely depends on how much you want to spend. You will need to check you check the Super-chips web site, the tuners will only work on 1998 and newer. They will not work on 1997 and some early 1998 models. I have a 97 dak v6, I was very disappointed when I found out it wouldn't work on my truck. I even thought about getting a late model 98 or 99 pcm and see if it would work on my truck. If it would, then maybe, just maybe the tuner would work too. I don't know if anyone else has thought of this. If I get a chance I would like to compare the wiring diagrams between the 97 and 99 daks, if they are the same then there is a possibility the 99 pcm might work then the super-chips tuner might work.

Message: If you want some good rock solid performance and have a v6 then supercharge or nitrous it. That's the single biggest and best gain you will get in one fell swoop with this truck. Going that route of course you would want to open up the intake and exhaust flow. Doing these piece meal changes is fine but it takes a lot of things before a major gain is felt. I know, I've taken the piece meal route. I wouldn't put so much stock into just a chip or reprogram. JMHO.

Message: I have the Mopar Performance PCM for a 93 V6, but they are not made anymore. I love it. We should all send a petition to the Mopar parts headquarters and ask that they continue production of the V6 performance PCM. I got it for nothing, but they were selling for $350 from the dealer 3 years ago.
