Message: Ok a while back I had posted about my 93 ext cab 3.9L V6 auto. I wanted to know why it would not want to shift at takeoff (when the engines still cold) It will rev up real high and then finally shift and will do this until the motor is finally warm.
You had said it was probably sticky valves in the valve body. I would assume it is that as well because I brought it into my local body shop and they thought it had to do with the transmission so they tightened the bands and added new lubricant but still did no good.
So how big of deal would this be to fix the sticky valves, and how would they go about fixing this?? Also how much $$ are we talking here? I would really not have to want them to fix it if its going to be pricey or would it be fine driving it like it is or eventually would I damage it? Some help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Message: i'm not real knowledgable, but what about the torque converter. that seemed to be one of the many symptoms i was having with my truck before it finally quit on me on the 60 frwy. had to have the tranny rebuilt at that time, cost about $2.000.

Message: You would need to drop the valve body and check
everything out.
Did this shop by any chance use dextron or cheap
fluid that will also cause probs.
Chrysler recomends no dextron and ATF + 4 in all
there transmissions even if your owners manual
says +3 use +4
The only 2 fluids I will use in the chrysler trans
is the +4 or Amsoil synthetic these trans are very
sensitive to the fluid

Message: The transmission additive they used was Lucas.
It actually helped at the shift points with them tightening the bands and the additive helped it go through alot smoother. They did not make it worse by no means.
Its just that its more then likely something other then tranny. Truck has 130,000 BTW.

Message: hey Larry... speaking of this, how difficult is it to pull the valve body and check the temperature sensor and press governor inside the transmission? When it is real cold out, mine surges (RPMs go up and down slightly while accelerating) and it always has a REAL hard shift between 1 and 2. Sometimes it slips a lot between 2 and 3 too. Once it engages, it is fine.

Message: You need to drop the pan, disconect the wires
plug on drivers side and remove the linkage
Than unbolt the body and have it in netral and
pop out the park acutator rod than it will come
out.
Not all trucks had the temp sensor installed if
it has it its in the cooling line near the rad.
You can see the valves that activate the bands
and the modulator valve, if you find any sticky
or broken rings on these valves they need to
be replaced
There is also a O/D solonoid in there you will see
when the body is out. and a Lockup solonoid
controled electricly
there again some had 2 solonoids and some just 1
If you go that far why not drop a shift kit in it
will solve a lot of probs these trans have and
comes with a VHS vidio to see how everything
comes apart TransGo TFOD 518 $100 summitracing.com
Well worth the money
And doubble check those band adjustments
