Message: Try installing a MSD 6a, Msd Superconductor wires, 3923 autolite plugs gapped out to .045, install a K&N air filter, do the TPS mod, the crank sensor mod. All of these will add mileage and power. Use the search function and research each item listed above.

Message: First check on the stock motor I am running in
my 95 4X4 I got 18mpg
It has all the bolt on mods ecept the 1.7's are
not back in yet
My stroker motor pulls 22 23 and has done 24mpg
You need to check your sensors sounds like you
are running a little on the rich side.
IAT, Engine temp will effect mileage a lot if
reading cold.

Message: Yeah...mine gets 11-12.
You can faintly smell gas when it is running though out the exhaust.
What causes it to run rich?
I went to Auto Zone and they acted like retards. I told them I needed to get a sensor tested and they said all they have is a voltmeter?!?

Message: Have you ever replaced the incoming air temp sensor? (Air charge temp sensor) It is located on the passenger side of the intake manifold. 92 and older had an exposed sensor where 93 and newer were sealed. This sensor gets a lot of build up between the exposed contacts and causes the readings to be off. I just replaced mine (I have a 93 but it was built in 92 and takes a 92 sensor) and it cured my rich exhaust, quieted the idle, and smoothed out the engine. It responds better too.

Message: I have the 5.2L V8 motor in my 92 dodge dakota sport. I am currently running MSD 8.5mm wires with the new Blaster Replacement coil... Has power like no other. I had/have very poor fuel mileage, mayb3 14-15 on the highway, then again i do have the mopar 318 motor, which is why. But try a new ignition system; Coil & Wires. Pricey, but definitly worth it. :)

Message: My 95 CC 4x4 3.8L auto 146k miles was getting 12-13 mpg, I changed the o2 sensor and did a tune up and got up to 14-15 mpg. I put 1 quart of transmission fluid in with the rest oil and drove for about 600 miles and my combined city/highway increasted to 18.2 on my first tank and all highway driving climbed to 21.2 mpg!! Big difference. And I've always changed the oil every 3,000 miles or so. You can find a couple of old posts about my problems as well as a new one about me getting better gas milage.
Some shops now offer a bilstein service, they flush the engine out. Oil does break down and cause gum/sludge/crap to build up. Also there are several other posts about different additives that accomplish the same thing.

Message: Dakotas are not known for there great gas mileage. But many facotrs determine the kind of fuel mileage you get. A couple of things that are really overlooked:
Tire size, proper inflation and alignment, driving habits, winter fuel blends. The list goes on and on.
As posted above, start with a good, complete tune up. Check for any codes.
I have an '00 QC 5spd, 3.9, 4x2 with 3.55 rear axle ratio and 235/75/15 tires. In toen i average around 18mpg. Highway average around 23mpg. I have got as high as 24.5 on the highway. Not bad for such a heavy truck with a small motor.
