Subject: v6 dakota to v8 IP: Logged
Message: Ive got a 93 dakota with at 3.9 in it, Im going to put a 318 v8 in it, iam goin to have a carb and shorty headers. my question is will the 318 bolt right in with no changes to the mounting brackets and trans? Also, will the pulleys and brackets bolt from the 3.9 to the v8? If you can answer my questions it would be great... thanks!!

Message: Brackets and tranny will swap right over. Magnum block has a "triad" mounting point in the sides of the block, so a Magnum will bolt in. An LA 318 will need a kit since it only has the "ears" for mounting. See this site if you are using an LA block.....http://www.engine-swaps.com/

Message: IF the 318 block is from 77, but its been overhauled with all the goodies, do u know off hand if that block is the same configuration as a 318 from a 93 dakota?

Message: Overhauling has nothing to do with it. First we need some ground rules here on just what you mean by configuration. The '77 has a flat tappet cam, the '93 is a roller. Shorter pushrods in the '93. Fully evolved swirl-port cylinder heads with revised exhaust ports with pedestal-mounted rockers/oiled through pushrods in the '93. The '77 oiled through the #1 and #4 cam journals through the heads, finally ending in the rocker shafts. The block of the '77 does not have the mounting points on the lower center section of the block like the Magnums, so you'd have to use the kit or build your own mounts for the ears on the upper forward "ears" of either block.
