Subject: Gtech times on V6 - not too great IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1992 Dakota Extended Cab.
I tested it with the Gtech and it has a 0-60 of 9.08 seconds and a 1/4 mile of 17.08 seconds at 83 mph.
Does the speed in the 1/4 sound a little high for the time?? Seems like 17 second 1/4 miles are usually in the low 70 mph speeds???
I was really hoping I would atleast be in the mid 16's with a V8 TB, K&N, Magnaflow muffler, IAT relocation, and 160 degree thermostat.
It was around 40-50 degrees out.
I also had a full tank of gas and a 200lb speaker box and sub in the back.
Anyone test their truck?

Message: The Gtech is a windshield mounted device capable of determining 1/4 mile time and G rating on your handling.
I raced my 99 V-6 club cab with 1/4 tank of fuel and nothing in the bed with JBA headers, custom air intake tube, Jet stage 2 chip and 180 thermo on a 90 degree day at Carlsbad raceway and my best time (this is an automatic) was 17.6 at 78mph.

Message: Damn.
My friend just tried it in his 97 Blazer 4.3.
15.74 @ 89mph. Completely stock.
I guess the 3.9 just can't compete with the 4.3.
Oh well.

Message: I tried it again today. I realized that I had my windows down yesterday.
It was 16.94 and a 0-60 of 8.9 seconds.
What do you think I will do with the following...
200lb sub/box taken out
Tailgate down
Homebrew Intake
Switch the 160 out for a 180 degree therm
Or maybe leave the 160 in and put an electric fan in place of stock
If I can get into the low 16's with cheap mods, I'll be ready to start spending money on other mods.

Message: Well, the cooler it runs, the better.
But someone told me that Dakotas run best at 185 degrees, so the 160 may be too cold.

Message: I think the tailgate down actually isn't as good... tailgate up I have heard creates an air pocket and helps the air flow better. Not sure though... tonneau cover would prolly be best for aerodynamics.

Message: The tailgate down will improve areodynamics, but having a cover on the bed is even better. The lightest cover would be a soft, but they blow in the wind and do barely slow you down. I use a 30lb fiberglass cover, this is the most effient, and it locks so you can store things in the bed if needed. Also add a mild spoiler, such as the backdraft. These add just the right amount of downforce on the back of the truck and will optimize you tail end areodynamics.

My best so far has been 16.94.
My cousin has a 1998 Chevy 1500 with a 4.3 V6. He ran a 16.91. He has Flowmaster exhaust.
