Message: Can anyone relate on the terrible highway acceleration with the 3.9?
It seems like the speedometer sits still even when it drops into 3rd. I notice it when I am going about 70 and it drops into 3rd. It seems like it takes forever to get from 70-85.
Is this just a lack of performance? Or maybe its geared too high.
Anything to increase high speed performance? I am planning on building an intake, so maybe this will help.

Message: i find my dak to pull hard when i punch it at 70.. i can go from 70-90 pretty quick.. now if your talking about slowly pushing the gas pedal down to get up to speed then yes it is a little slow.. but that could be the tps sensor if im not mistaken. i need to check mine to see whats it running. hope i helped

Message: If it does like mine and doesn't downshift, it'll pull slow... but if it downshifts, you should notice a decent pull.

Message: mines kinda iffy around 70 if im going 70 and tromp it its kinda a slug but if i start out at like 50 and floor it and stay on it it'l get to 110 in no time what gives?? does the kickdown put the computer into a diff mode and it just stays that way or what i dont get it.... and yeah it goes into 3rd at 70 i have the 3.55 rear end i just played with my tv cable today and havent got the chance to "blow out the cobwebs" hehe maybe that will help it sure firmed up the shifts under light to moderate throttle.
just my 2 cents

Message: did you guys consider that he has a pre magnum engine? a 92 only had 125 hp and maybe 180 lbft torque, a far cry from the 175 hp 225 torque we have in the newer ones.

Maybe I am just used to quick vehicles. Unless we were all to race side-by-side, 50-70, our opinions are going to differ greatly.

Message: Ya didja 92+ are all Magnums.
I know what your talking about 92dakota, mine kinda does the same thing. I will be floating along at 60mph and I will have to almost tromp the damn thing to get it to pass another vechicle. But when It gets up and starts going its like a bat outa hell and will get to 85...90 in no time.

Message: I have a '93 EXT cab 4x4 automatic. Something to remember is that the torque peak of this engine is close to 70 MPH in 3rd gear. I drive the interstates a lot here in PA, and as soon as you hit a hill it downshifts to third. I punch the OD button to keep it there, and it climbs just fine. Here are some things I'd check if I were hitting a "wall" at a particular speed. Some of these things are basic, and you may have already covered them. Things like: air filter, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap & rotor, fuel filter, oxygen sensor, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, basic engine spark timing. Then you get into stuff like cylinder compression and catalyst backpressure.

Message: Yeah...I tried it again today.
From 45-65, it moves pretty quick in second, but once its in third, it really sucks!
Thanks
