Subject: 1992 Transmission Problems..Help IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1992 Dakota and it will not start off in first gear only in second.when it gets going it runs fine.I wanted to see if it would down shift into first from a rolling start, so i got going about 5 mph and dropped it down to 1st and the rear tires locked up.I put it in drive and it drove away, changed the filter and fluid.Any suggestions?

If you are not familer with the automatics don't
try to fix it yourself

Message: Could be any one or more of the folowing conditions.
Governor valve stuck partially open.
Valve body malfunction.
Front servo piston cocked in bore.
Front band linkage malfunction.
Incorrect throttle or gearshift linkage adjustment.
Front or rear band out of adjustment.
Dragging clutch.
Broken or seized planetaries.
Overrunning clutch worn, broken, or seized.
Did you adjust the bands when you changed the fluid?
