Message: Hello all,
Need your advice/recommendations. This is a great forum and I have already gleaned a lot of good information.
I have a '94 V6 Dak w/140K+ nearly trouble-free miles. However, over the last year or so, it has developed the DISP (Dreaded Intermittent Stalling Problem) that is regularly mentioned here. The truck occassionally stalls at any speed for no apparent reason, and will then be very hard to re-start afterwards. Sometimes it might re-start after a 3-5 min wait, or sometimes 3-5 hours or 3-5 days.
I have tried two frequently recommended solutions. I replaced the crank position sensor (no change), and inpected the electrical joint in the wiring harness near the battery and fuse box (everything was fine). I have also recently replaced the coil, wires, cap, and rotor as well. Even when not starting, the plugs are getting a spark. The system shows no fault codes through the self-test.
I was able to go almost four months without the problem (previously occurred daily/weekly) by keeping the fuel level above 3/4 tank, which leads me to believe it might be the fuel pump -- another commonly recommended fix.
Tonight was the first night the truck has left me stranded since I've been keeping the fuel tank topped off. I disconnected the quick-release in the fuel line beneath the driver's door, and there was no fuel flowing as I cranked the engine -- not normal, correct?
I think I've all but isolated the problem to the fuel pump, but it could conceivably be an electrical problem (pump not getting signal/power). Before I buy a (very expensive) fuel pump, does anyone else have any suggestions or recommendations?
I truly appreciate your thoughts and advice. I am in the military in the southern hinterland of Germany, so unfortunately, there are no Dakota-smart dealers around. Looking forward to getting back to the states this summer for just this reason!
Thanks again. Hope to hear from you all soon.

Message: If at all possible with tank removed see if you can flush out the inside of the tank before installing a new pump otherwise you run the risk of foriegn material clogging you're sock screen pick-up on you're new pump. Also see if you can get ahold of a quallity fuel injector cleanor maybe from opel or mercedes benz remember to vasalline the electrical connectors this will help with moisture problem.
