Message: hey everyone,
today i was at a red light and decided to take off...i sat at the light and started to load up the torque convertor......held the gas at 1700 rpms with my foot on the brake....GREEN..boom.....
best d@mn start i ever had. took off like a bat out of h*ll!!!
now the problem, i was going home when i decided to run some juice.....and i was like "this didn't take off so well".....tried it again (yes, i am stupid)and it did the same thing but i smelt a very strong gas odor this time...i was like holy mother of @#%$ i am about to blow up...well i didn't! got home, popped the hood and looked under...
when i did that awesome start it knock my fipk off and stripped the hat screw out of the TB...son of a @#$&^!!!!!....i was sprayin' my juice all over my engine!!...good thing nothing really bad happened!
in otherwords i am in desperate need of a new TB. Wednesday i have a scheduled dyno appointment!

My TB came off an R/T, 15,000 miles, I paid $75.
Is it just the screw that is stripped? Your TB is still functioning? Can't you just replace the screw or use an S-bolt? Or are the threads on the TB stripped, in which case wouldn't something like loctite hold it in for your dyno appt.until you get a better solution.

Message: lesley,
the TB is stripped.....d@mn aluminum!!
it is still functioning and a torque strap is some sort of strap (usually a metal rod) that keeps the engine from moving when you hit the throttle....

Did you break a motor mount?
Sounds like a lot of motor movement

Message: Dakotadan might be right Intense.
If youve never messed anything up before when you launched then you may have a crapped out motor mount, you should check it before any more fun.
A good way to check it is with your hood open foot hard on the brake in gear and give it about 1/4 throttle, if the engine raises up alot than you need a motor mount, keep in mind it will raise a little but you will be able to guess about how high before it hits your hood. Also check the inside of your hood for damage, right over the TB.
I had a 440 Cuda that broke a motor mount in a race and it F'ed my hood all up!!

Message: there is a safety L bracket on the motor
mounts, when the rubber part breaks and the
engine tries to tourque over it catches
it....shouldnt be able to go far enough to hit the
hood.

Message: True, but when i trashed my V-6 motor mount (driver side), the motor had plenty of free swing before it hit that limiter tab built into the motor mount. When I launched hard, the gear shift (mine was a 5-spd) would rock all the way over to the right where the tranny was rotating with the engine. When the motor mount safety tabs hit, there was a huge clunk. So, basically it went like this....
Clutch release, shifter comes out of hand, then CLUNK! Ouch. New motor mounts only cost like $120 at the dealer installed.
Lesley, typically a torque strap is a chain, a metal bar, a turnbuckle, any kind of solid link that typically runs from the driver's side cylinder head to the frame rail. When you launch hard, the torsional motion that would typically rotate the engine up against the motor mount will now try to "lift" the frame. No can do, right? So, now all that torsion (torque) is transferred thru the drivetrain and translates into a harder launch. Usually that's pretty common technology in drag racing circles, but has a limited effect on a street vehicle.

Message: no, motor mount is find....but there is always motion in the engine. the problem is that the fipk mounts to the TB and then to the fender well with the heat sheild. there is room for movement for that but not much.....i think the slicks might have had something to do with it....

Message: Thanks Lesley.
When I made my ram air I fashioned me up a bracket to hold the down tube and it mounts to the valve cover bracket so it moves with the engine.
