Thanks for the info. I will probably donate as soon as i can. I am buying the Dak tomorrow, if i dont have to sink any money into the first month i would like to become a member of this site, (actually i would be honored to be a member!)Question: Is there a site that i can totally learn about the 1987 Dakota 3.9l v6? I pick up information here and there, but i would like to start some notes on it that way i am ahead of the game when and if something goes wrong, examples, sizes of tires and wheels i can put on it, plugs,wires,engine parts,change from auto to manual etc, actually those requests are just for my personal information but hopefully you get the hint of what i am looking for. oh it it is also a 4x4 Thanks for your time and efforts

Good morning. Looks, like we'll get Doug on the Bandwagon, which is great. No what you mean about sleep dept. I had been up for the last 2 days before I hit the sack last night. But, I do it naturaly, some don't or can't. I just get doing stuff and don't want to go to bed.
Doug is hopefully gonna get a good deal, even at 2000. I believe.

Well hello to all!!! Well Diane i picked up my Dak today and it is running real nice!!! The only thing i have a concern with is that the (CHECK EGR) light is on...What does that mean? I will write more here in a few minutes, gotta take a phone call. Hope to hear from all of you soon. Thanks

Welcome fellow Dakota owner!!!
Sorry to not have been on sooner. I've been real busy and may not get a chance to come back on for a couple days.
That is the Check Engine light. Do you know how to read the codes?
Turn key on and off three times, (without starting it) Then forth time leave it in the on position, light will flash giving you blinks for numbers. example for 12, 55
would be: 1-blink, pause, 2-blinks, pause, 5-blinks, 5-blinks and no more. Also, 55 is the number it gives when it is finished, meaning end of check. Do it a couple times and you'll get the hang of it. It's easy.
After you get your codes, come back on the board and start a new post asking for help.
Larry, Wadak, Vern and Tazzy are on the board a lot and will help you amoungst many others.
Also, I'm glad to hear your truck runs real nice, check engine light is probably nothing serious.
I'll look you up on here in a few days, when I get a chance to come on, or I'll post to this thread again.
Good luck with everything and I want to see a picture of you new Dak as soon as you can post one.

First off i would like to say good day!
Ok i did what you told me Diane (with the check egr light). I did the turn on/off like you said to get the codes but i did not blink? I tried it 3 times, 4 times, 5 times...ok you get the hint..it didnt work for me it did not blink at all? I'm stumped, maybe you can help me out a little more on this subject...or other's on this site at that. Oh by the way i took picture's the first day i used the truck i will post them as soon as become a honored member!! One more question i just filled the truck up and it looks like it has a 20 gallon tank (big tank for a midsize truck) How many miles do you think i will get out of a full tank going about 65-70mph not getting on it also not using four wheel drive? Hope to hear from all you great people soon. Thank you for input...........

Hey guys my name is Kayla i am buying a 1988 Dak v6 4x4 and was just reading all of the posting on it. It seems there are alot of issues with stalling!! When i took the truck for a test drive i had noticed that it idles really high. Also when i was sitting there with it in park rev it up it stalled out on me. Now it does have a rebuilt engine in it with about 63,000 mg on it, but other then it idleing high i notice when you gun it, it seems like it does not want to go. And when you go to stop it seems the engine does not want to. I read on here about replacing the distributor pickup and rotor. If anyone could give me some pointers that would be great. Now the asking price is 1200.00 with only one owner. thanks Kayla

First off thanks for answering me. I am willing to put the time and effort into it. I know who owned the truck before i bought it. Just wanted to know. But I went ahead and bought it and got a tune up exc. and now it runs like a champ!!! But i would like to know should i go with a cherry bomb or a flowmaster 40 serise? I won't this truck really really loud.

Really really loud, cherry bomb glasspack but it will be annoying. It will probably sound like a pizzed off weedwacker.

I agree with daddio, if you want loud go with a Cherry Bomb, I put a Thrush turbo on mine (an 88) and I like the way it sounds, not too loud and it doesn't sound like a drone on the highway.
