Hi

What kind of electric fans are you using on your 3.9's?

I saw one at truck performance thats a direct fit, but its $200.

What kind of power increase will I see?

Thanks again!

Well I know for the 97-99 the Flex a lite Black Magic 150 is the talk of the town. 15-20 HP gain from the articles I've read and what people have posted. Summit is $200 also.

What does this kit include?

I know it has the thermostat built in.

What will I have to hook up? Is it a simple 12 volt positive and ground from the battery?

I looked on the Flexalite site and it doesn't show that one is made specifically for the Dakota.

But on www.truckperformance.com, it says it will be a direct fit for my Gen II.

How does it attach?

Thanks!

Well I'm picking mine up on Monday so I can let you know more specifics then. What I've read is it uses some kind of clamping system to attach to the top and bottom of the radiator. I understand the Perma Cools use tie straps to attach to the radiator which I think is cheesy and unreliable. I'm not sure if the 150 will work on the 92 Dakota. Maybe it's too small or too big. You could try measuring your radiator area or maybe someone else can post on this.

does a e fan add 20 hp! u would b lucky to see 3 out of it. ur just reducing drag on the motor...if u did the efan and pulleys u may see 5 hp if ur lucky. so moral of the story is, by a efan off ebay and if none are cheap enough auto zone sells them for 70$. i woudlent imagine these motors needing more then 1600 cfm depending on where you are from, how hot it gets in the summer, and how much stop and go u do. but anything over 100$ is way to muc cash to spend on a efan..

Damn. Should I just give up on V6 Dakota performance?

If it only provides 3-5 horses, then no, $200 is a waste.

I wish I could find dyno runs on mods.

Maybe I'll just take my clutch fan off and drive it for a few minutes. That should tell me if its worth it.

Removing the big clutch fan will help your low end
not turning the big fan, maybe around 5 ponies.

I run an elec fan and below 60 - 70 degrees it
never comes on

There are other fans you can use that will fit
right in the exsisting fan shroud for a very
clean looking instalation.

I am using a fan from a 90 Olds Cutlass mounted
right in the shroud, cost $0 thermo control $34
The car ended up in my yard with an elect prob
and a blown front axle customer did not want to
put any money in the car it has over 300,000 miles

Hmm, I saw an article someone did on a Dakota few years back
they put an electric fan on and documented a 20 horsepower
increase.

Larry,

What CFM rating do you recommend?

I do a lot of stop and go driving. It's the 3.9 V6, though.

How hard is it to wire up a temp sensor? Where does the temp sensor go?

Thanks

Can you recommend a good fan?

I looked on Summit and they have a Permacool fan that does 2700cfm.

Any that you know of with adjustable temp sensors built in?

The permacool at 2700 cfm is great 2000 cfm on up
will keep it cool.

The Flexolite thermo controls work great you just
use the little rubber piece and install it in the
top radiator hose put 2 wraps of plastic, vinal
elect tape around it and slide the hose back on
I use a screw clamp directly over the rubber
gromit do not tighten to tight and the stock
clamp behind that and never get any leaks

I have tried many ways to control the elec fans
but direct coolent reading is the best way

Power and ground with a direct disconect switch
in the cab so the fan does not run when the truck
is shut off.

Here is one of my earlier post showing how to
wire the fan with 2 LED's red on green showing
the thermo switch is armed 2 1k ohm resistors
needed to run the LED's and 2 switches 1 arms
the thermo (master disconnect) and 1 is manual
on in case the switch fails.

http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/v6/5594.html

The green light will be on when armed and go off
and the red one will come on when the fan runs
making it very easy to adjust the switch.

All parts you can get at radio shack and you need
a 30 amp relay any car parts store will have that
