Message: I concur.....just got the same muffler (Vortec/Vortex? Not sure of spelling) put on my truck today. I think you'd have to look pretty far and wide to find a system that will make your V6 (or mine, for that matter) sound EXACTLY like a V8. Mine is definitely deeper and louder, but while it is both of those things, there's no mistaking it for a V8. But then again, I bought mine more for MPG and HP/torque, not sound.

Message: I just gave my truck a flowmaster 40 series mufler single in dual out and i love the sound. Loud, deep and doesen't sound like a fat guy farting through a coffee can. It will have you fooled for a V8 at lower rps

I wonder how many times he was able to do that before he fux0r3d up his transmission... 60 prolly wouldn't be THAT hard on it, but dear God, kicking overdrive off at 100?! OUCH! By the way...I do realize that post is 3 years old, but since this post was brought to the top, I felt like mentioning it.

Message: Single is supposed to be better for our trucks... go with a single 2.5" in/out muffler, no bigger. If you wanna go duals go with 2.5" inlet, dual 2.25" outlets. Those will keep your backpressure where you need it. Personally, I like the looks of duals, but if you care more about power instead of looks, go with the single.

Message: I'm still a little confused. I've got a 2003 V6 Dakota Sport and I'd like to add some rumble without just slapping on a straight pipe. What's a good muffler that will directly replace the stock one without much work involved?

Message: If you just want loud, just take the catalityc? converter off. If you want performance and sound, go with Flowmaster. You can go to Flowmasters website and they have recordings of the sounds that each series makes.

Message: I got a 97 3.9 73,000 miles. Put on a Flowmaster 50 series. After a few thousand miles it is sounding better and better. Got custom made tail pipes from a farm co-op place that really knew what he was talking about. They're from a high preformance exhaust store somewhere and fit perfect. The V6 won't and can't sound like a V8, something to do with firing order and sheer number of cylinders. The last duals I got for my 91 from a CHRYSLER DEALER sounded quieter than the stock I had on. That sucked - this sounds good!
