Subject: increase speed causes sound IP: Logged
Message: 98 SC Dakota 2WD Manual tranny 3.9L V-6. When the clutch is fully released and I accelorate in 2nd gear I hear an inital and low rattle sound. It also does this in 3rd gear. The sound only last about 2 seconds but its when you shift to 2nd or 3rd as soon as the clutch pedal is fully released and the clutch is disengaged and you give it gas does this sound happen. Not a big deal truck drives great but I'm worried if that is the sound of impending doom for a through out bearing or possibly damaged pressure plate. Thoughts?

Message: Does it do it throughout the powerband or only at low rpms. Try running through the gears shifting at 3500rpm and see if it still does it

Message: Well it only makes this funny sound at 1500-2200 rpm range around the time I'm accelerating and getting ready to change to the next gear. The truck drives outstanding, its only 2nd gear then accelerating you hear it for 2 seconds then shift to 3rd gear and you hear it for 2 seconds and thats it. Thats the only driving range that I hear it. I didn't think I'd have to deal with a through out bearing at 66K man thats going to cost me to have the tranny pulled out, guess I'll slap in a new clutch and pressure plate while I got it out.

Message: I recently put in a new throw out bearing, I've got about 135K on my v6. It was one of the easiest one's I've done. The hard part was getting the tranny to mate back up, but a little wiggling, and it went back in, all in all about 2 to 2.5 hours, but we were just piddling... Aaron
