Subject: nitrous, exhaust, FIPK. IP: Logged
Message: I'm planing on getting a nitrous system for my 2000 3.9L 5 spd reg cab Dakota. I don't want a huge horsepower shot maybe between 75 and 100. I plan on going through summit or jegs and I was hoping for a NOS brand system. If I could get a part number it would be appriciated. Also how would a Flow master series 40 muffler with 2.5" dual outlets with JBA headers sound on my truck? Last thing what K&N FIPK kit do I need for my truck? Maybe a part number for summit or jegs? thanks

Message: Another question. Are all nitrous kits the type where you have to hold the button before it engages. I've heard that some engage at certain speeds or RPM's. I want the typ where you have to engage it yourself. thanks

Message: NOS brand sux.. get the Nitrous Express Kit. Its the best system out there for a dodge efi. And a 75-100 shot is a big increase.

Message: hey GenIII do you run a nitrous kit? if so what are you running and what shot? If not what would be a good shot for my truck. also I read about the wet systems blowing something off the motor. what could this be?

Message: "GenIII" aka IntenseDak39 did run nitrous...not sure if he still does. I'll let him answer that, but anyway... you're asking for trouble if you want to engage the system yourself, use NOS brand, and running that high of a shot. NX makes kits that will keep you from messing anything up very easily... it gives you a WOT switch so the system engages at WOT (wide open throttle) which is what's recommended...doing it at any other time can have harmful effects. It is dry shot which is safer and I believe a 75-100 shot is quite safe with the NX kit. With NOS... something will probably break.
"also I read about the wet systems blowing something off the motor. what could this be?"
That would be many different parts of your engine all blowing into pieces from running waaaaay too hard.

Message: the KIPK that's for the 5.2/5.9 fits the 3.9. I had one. I had also used the nitrous express kit. a wet system is the safest kit out there. Nitrous Express has dialed thier kits in to make the most power and to run the safest for a particular motor... thats until you go outside the recommended "jet" chart that is supplied with the kit. I ran a 50 shot all the way to a 100 shot and had a lot of fun with it, however, they dont recommend more than a 75 shot on a V6.

What would be a good amount. it's just a
street truck that will be used for occasional
drag races and cruising the avenue.

Message: it comes with an arming switch you use to turn the system on. Then you also have a WOT switch that you either place on the throttle body or food pedal so that when you put it under WOT, it will only be on then. I had mine on the throttle body

Message: Anyone looked at the Venom setup? It monitors the O2 so if the system goes lean it will shut off the Nitrous to save from a motor meltdown.

The installation is a little harder but if it saves your motor just once, it would be worth it.

Message: well, last venom kit i looked at wouldnt work with the dodge EFI. I dont know if they changed em but they work off of a fuel pressure regulator and return fuel system. Something us 93 and newer magnum owners just dont have. The nitrous express kit plumbs its fuel from the fuel pressure test port.

just adding nitrous is the worst thing you could do. Thats when you start hearing the horror stories about how so and so melted his piston's and it was all the nitrous' fault. NO! it was the guy who installed it and got greedy!
but you are right... its easier to install. You dont have to plumb for the fuel.

Message: Mike, I would recommend 75 shot. you can actually feel it unlike a 50 shot and its not quite as brutal as 100.
My NX kit has NEVER run lean using the jet chart supplied, clear up to doing my own math according to the chart clear up to 125 shot.
I will say this though, NX set up there jets to run rich (safe). End of last summer I played around with the fuel side jet and leaning it out, I actually got 75hp N2O jet and a different # fuel jet feeling like or better then NX 100hp jets both sides. All because I leaned it out pretty good, did get it almost to lean at about 4k though.
