Why on earth did they put this wimpy 3.9 in their extra heavy compact pickup? They could have given us the Jeep I6 with 195 hp!! why didnt they!!?? I6s run smoother too don't they, and I know Jeeps get better milage(although that may be a weight thing). Let alone the 3.7 which has a hp output closer to the 4.7 then the lowly, antiquated 3.9. same goes for the 5.9, what a waste of displacement. Search through car power numbers and try to find an engine that big that puts out such a meager amount of hp. just look at chevy's 350/5.7 .2 litres smaller and always gives atleast 300 hp(400 in a new vette) Its not fair!!!! and the ram V10 310 hp!!!what the hell is that??? ---weak---

this is like the third thread you have started just to bi--- about how wimpy your truck is. Either belly up and mod the thing until it runs the way you want, or get rid of the truck. Just quit complaining cause you didn't get exactly what you wanted. I didn't get what I wanted either, but oh well, deal with it. Just quit complaining and talk about something useful.

the 4.0 has a few more ponnies but the 3.9 is a truck engine and has more torque.....have you ever raced a jeep....try it and you will figure out why we don't have that engine.

Probally because they needed something between the 2.5L 4-cyl and the V8. Geez, we don't have it _that_ bad... I think my V6 is reasonably fast. At the least it gets the truck up to highway speed quickly, and has enough power to do so towing a trailer uphill.

i think jeeps are faster, i know wranglers are faster. and if u consider 235 and 230 to be less then 225 then sure they do have more torque. the cherokee has a better 0-60 then the v6 dak 9.1 as opposed to 12-14 on 4x4 V6s mine is like 10.75 or so with intake and exhaust and a wrangler smoked me too(w/o exhaust)
no doubt daks handle better though, jeep handle the way i would imagine a hot air ballon to
daks handle like overgrown sports cars hehe

i didn't think we were talking about the cherokee...my brother has a 98 wrangler and i run circles around him all day long.....even when i didn't have all the goodies on my truck...
and my dad and i took my brother's jeep to colorado and through new mexico the darned thing couldn't even stay in fifth gear without going less than 50 mph! there was a little wind but that shouldn't cause that big of a difference.
maybe i was wrong about the output...last i heard the jeep had less torque...sorry!

i know its enough for 2x4s have u guys driven a 4x4 CC V6?? it is powerful(and i use this term losely) only up to 30 and then nothing
if the 30-60 was even close to the 0-30 i would not have started this thread

Iv drove my moms jeep and iv got it up around 90 mph before... And what you said about being in 5th gear without staying under 50 miles an hour... Unless your running a 6 speed wrangler i assume... than 5th gear is as far as it goes and if 50 is all your pulling :^\ i think it may be time for a tune up or time to trade it in altogether. And like i said the thing weighs 4000 pounds and is shaped like a box... so yes the wind probably would make a difference that vehicles case.

i don't think a wrangler would weigh more than my truck....they don't even have tops!.....it wasn't a six speed....and we did a tune up right before we left (oil,spark plugs,k&n filter,belt,wires).
didn't say it wouldn't go fast, just didn't want to stay fast.....maybe the pcm was adjusting to the thinner air in the higher altitudes.

yep the 4.0 woulda been a better motor than the 3.9, soon both will be gonners though. 4.0 is, after over 100 years of production about to stop cause they can't make it idle clean enough,
too bad their damn good motors durable and very long lasting 4.0 especialy.
wranglers and dakota will be getting the 3.7 like the liberty.
my wet dream is putting a super charged hemi in a wrangler. I'd putt'er in 4wd light em up and sit there hovering like bat man

Blackdak . This isn't intended to cut you down but I Just got to ask .. If your so unhappy with the V6 then you must have been unhappy with your test drive. Why did you buy it rather then a V8. I know it's not a gas milage issue. Most talking in here get very close to same milage.

I don't know what you're doing to your truck, but my 92 Dakota club cab with cap, 4WD, V-6 and 4-spd auto gets 20 mpg and has plenty of power. When my brother owned it, he towed a 22' sailboat across this country with no problems at all.
Maybe you need to tune up or recondition your POS.
